General support and advice

Do you love and care for somebody with a learning disability? Mencap’s online community enables you to connect with other parents and family carers. It is a safe and supportive place to meet others, ask questions about learning disability, share experiences and offer support. Visit the Mencap website for details.

Amwell View School & Specialist Sports College
School for Severe Learning Disabilities aged 2-19yrs. Located Near Ware in Hertfordshire.

Middleton School
Primary School for Moderate Learning Disabilities. Located in Ware, Hertfordshire.

Pinewood School
Secondary School for Moderate Learning Disabilities. Located in Ware, Hertfordshire.

Bentfield Primary School
Bentfield Primary School is a mainstream primary school where pupils with additional needs learn alongside their peers in an environment where inclusion and diversity are key.

Thriftwood School & College
Thriftwood School & College is a purpose built provision for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and additional complex needs based in Chelmsford, Essex.

Harlow Fields School & College
Harlow Fields is a school and college supporting ages 3 to 19 who have moderate to severe learning disabilities. Based in Harlow, Essex.

St Elizabeth’s Centre
School and Children’s Home for 5-19 year olds, a College for 18-25 year olds (supported by a Domiciliary Care Agency) and a Residential Care Home with Nursing.  They provide education, care and medical support for people of all ages who have epilepsy and other complex needs. Located in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire.

Support for Children

CHIPS
Play & social opportunities for children aged 3-19years living in East Herts and the Borough of Broxbourne

Kids HUB – Hertford
Support children with any disability from birth to 25 years of age. They offer support to the whole family with the aim of giving disabled children a brighter future.

SPACE
Space is a Hertfordshire based charity supporting parent/carers of children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum, with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or a related condition.

Crackerjacks Children’s Trust
Charity providing respite breaks and specialist equipment to families for children with disabilities.

Families in Focus (Hertfordshire)
Free parenting courses including SEN specific courses and support groups for parents caring for children with additional needs. 

Families in Focus (Essex)
Supporting families of children with disabilities and special needs who require advice, information and support, particularly at times of change, challenge and crisis.

Home Farm Trust
Based in Ugley, Essex, HFT provides supported living and daytime activities for adults with learning disabilities.

Bishop’s House
Bishop’s House offers day services for adults with learning disabilities.

Care By Us
Care By Us supports adults with learning disabilities by providing both residential care and care visits in your own home.

Mudlarks
Mudlarks is a Hertford based charity that supports adults with learning disabilities through their café and allotment projects.

Zinc Arts
Zinc Arts is a community hub, arts and education centre and theatre based in Ongar, Essex that supports adults with learning disabilities.

Hertfordshire County Council 0-25 together service
Hertfordshire’s Social Care service for children and young people aged 0-25 years that have disabilities. You can self-refer either by calling them or completing their online form.
