Mel’s Danceathon

Mel Mose, a staff member at Grove Cottage is doing a Danceathon on Sunday 15^th August 2021, from 10am-4pm at the Bandstand in Sworders Field, Bishop’s Stortford to raise much-need funds for local charity Grove Cottage.

Grove Cottage is the home of Bishop’s Stortford Mencap and provides social and educational activities for people of all ages with a learning disability. It costs £400,000 per year to run the service but does not receive any national funding.

Mel has been working at Grove Cottage for the past three years. She works at various clubs that Grove Cottage operates including the popular Saturday respite clubs, the Adult Day Support Clubs, Get Active Club and the Music Man Project.

Mel said: “I wanted to join Grove Cottage as my younger brother Josh is a member and I wanted to get involved with supporting the wonderful work they do. I started as a volunteer and after a couple of months I was offered a job at one of the Saturday clubs which I was thrilled about, and now I work at several clubs throughout the week.

“I have wanted to do a fundraiser for Grove Cottage for a while now and I thought a Danceathon would be a fun way for people to come together, have a laugh and a boogie! I  hope that people will come down on the day and join in, donate and support Grove Cottage, a charity which is close to many people’s hearts.”

Jeannie Philip, Community Fundraising Manager at Grove Cottage, says: “We are thrilled that Mel is doing this fundraising event for us to raise much-needed funds for local people with learning disabilities. Everyone is welcome to come along and some of our members and local dance groups will also be joining in throughout the day – it will be great fun.”
