Nursery

Grove Cottage’s Ofsted-regulated Special Needs Nursery develops the long-term potential of children with a wide range of additional needs, by providing specialist education and social support at a very early age.

Our Nursery is open from 9.00am – 3.00pm, every Monday – Friday, during school term time.

We offer a fully inclusive educational and care setting for children with special educational needs, providing:

  • one-to-one provision as required
  • extra-curricular activities
  • fully qualified staff who liaise with a range of support professionals and therapists
  • extensive parental support

The children in our nursery follow the national Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum in an environment dedicated to children with additional needs. Our nursery staff teach and develop skills which the children may be delayed in, such as speech and mobility and encourage them to make friends with other children.

Children may be referred to us by parents or specialists (for example a visual team or an autism specialist), usually when there is evidence of a developmental delay or the child is struggling in a mainstream setting.

However, we do not need a diagnosis – if there are specific areas where your child is not meeting specific outcomes, there is global developmental delay or specific medical care needs, we may be able to offer your child a place at our nursery.

We achieved a ‘Good’ rating at our recent Ofsted inspection in July 2018. You can see the report highlights here

If your child is aged 3-4 years of age, you can use your 15 hours free government childcare a week at our nursery. Some children aged two may qualify for 15 hours funding. For more information about education, health and social care for children with special educational needs, please visit the Local Offer Website. For more information about free early education, or to find out if you are eligible, please visit the Hertfordshire County Council Website.

We appreciate that it can be difficult to know whether our nursery is right for your child. If you would like to have an informal, confidential chat about our nursery please contact our Nursery Manager, Maria Sims, on nursery@mencapgrovecottage.org or by calling 01279 656085.

R has become so confident since joining nursery and has made new friends and learnt how to deal with social situations.  He has learnt so many things and has become much more independent. Our family also benefits – he is now able to communicate with us and to socially interact with all members of the family. Grove Cottage is amazing and I am so grateful for all the help they have provided R and our family.  Everyone really has helped R to become his own little person.
